🤝 El día que pedí ayuda

Me reí un momento y luego respondí con sinceridad: "¿Que si me da tranquilidad? En realidad, es todo lo contrario".

Sonreí y respondí: "¡Claro que sí, muchísimo!"

🖍️ Colorear después del trabajo

📻 Contar hasta diez

🤝 The Day I Asked for Help

After joining the company, I believed I had to handle everything on my own.
So even when work piled up, I would stay late at night and quietly deal with it.
One day, Seoyeon, who sits next to me, looked at my face and asked whether there was anything she could help with.
For a moment, I was afraid I'd look incompetent if I asked, so "I'm fine" came out first.
But that night, thinking it over carefully, I realized the only reason I had refused was fear.
The next day, I worked up the courage and asked her to take on some of the data organizing.

🧺 Ten Minutes of Tidying a Night

When exam period came, my room became so full of clothes, books and cups that there was nowhere to step.
The messier the room got, the more cluttered my mind felt, so it was hard to focus on studying.
Unable to stand it any longer, my roommate Haeun suggested that we tidy up together for just ten minutes every night.
At first I wondered what difference so little would make, but we set a timer and started.
Ten minutes was shorter than expected, so we could keep it up every day without feeling burdened.

🛌 A Weekend of Real Rest

Even on my days off, I felt anxious that I was wasting time if I wasn't doing something.
So every weekend, I packed my schedule without a gap with studying for certifications or catching up on chores.
As a result, on Monday mornings I would often go to work even more worn out.
Seeing my face, my senior colleague Doyun told me to do nothing and get a good rest, at least this weekend.
Since he kept insisting that I rest, this time I closed my planner and decided to just rest.
On Saturday I slept in, and in the afternoon I walked slowly around the neighborhood listening to music I like.

✍️ Five Minutes Against the Blank Page

Whether it's a report or a letter, it tends to take me a very long time to write the first sentence.
Thinking I had to write well, I sometimes stared at a blank screen until the day was over.
Then I started attending a writing group at the local library, and the teacher's method was unusual.
When class began, the teacher had us write no matter what for five minutes, without fixing or erasing anything.
When I hesitated with my pen in hand, the teacher smiled and said again, "Like I said, don't try to write well. Let's just write."
Once I actually started writing, my hand didn't stop even after five minutes had passed.
Starting had been hard not because I lacked ability, but because I wanted to be perfect from the beginning.

🥎 Dad's Nail-Biting Habit

My dad has a habit of biting his nails without realizing it whenever he's worried.
Every time I saw him do it, I nagged him to stop biting his nails.
One day, while watching the news, Dad put his hand to his mouth again, so I raised my voice: "Dad, I said stop biting them."
Dad gave an awkward smile and said it just happens without him realizing.
Hearing that, I realized that just telling him not to do it hadn't been much help.
So the next day, I bought him a soft ball he could hold and squeeze.
Dad squeezed the ball whenever he felt uneasy, and a few months later his nails had noticeably grown.

🎤 Breathing Before the Presentation

Whenever I give a presentation in front of people, my heart races and my voice shakes.
So, ahead of an important presentation, I signed up for an evening yoga class near my office.
In every class the teacher told us to breathe out about twice as slowly as we breathe in, but I kept holding my breath.
Tension had become such a habit that even breathing out for a long time felt awkward.
So every night before bed, I lay down and practiced breathing for five minutes.
On the morning of the presentation, as I slowly breathed out in the waiting room, my trembling hands gradually calmed down.
The shaking didn't disappear completely, but I was able to say everything I had prepared, right to the end.
I think learning how to handle nervousness is more realistic than getting rid of it.

I, on the other hand, need to rest quietly alone after spending a long time with people to get my energy back.

But Sua suggested inviting friends and going camping together on Saturday, and I couldn't answer right away.

This time, I honestly told her I wanted to rest alone this week and promised I'd definitely join the camping trip next month.

🔍 Is Being a Perfectionist Comfortable?

People at work often tell me they envy me because I'm meticulous and never make mistakes.
Once, a new employee asked me whether I felt at ease working so perfectly.
I laughed for a moment and then answered honestly, "Do I feel at ease, you ask? Actually, it's the opposite."
Even before handing in a single page of a report, I'd check it again several times, so I always left work late.
Even one small mistake would weigh on my mind for days, and I often slept poorly.

When I asked her secret, she said she writes down three good things every night before falling asleep.

After hearing that, I also bought a small notebook and decided to try it myself.

📅 Stickers on the Calendar

At the start of this year, I resolved to read ten pages of a book a day.
But I was worried it would fizzle out in a few days like last year.
So I put a calendar on the fridge and stuck a small star sticker on every day I read.
As the stars lined up one after another, I'd open a book if only because I didn't want to break the chain.
When my grandfather visited over the Lunar New Year, he saw the calendar and asked whether it really helped.
I smiled and answered, "Of course, it absolutely helps."

These days, lots of people end their day by scrolling through other people's photos before bed, don't they?
I did too, but every time I saw travel photos or news of someone's promotion, my heart grew heavy for no reason.
I had been comparing other people's brightest moments with my ordinary day.

One day I confided this to my coworker Eunbi, and she told me about an unexpected method.
She said she sets aside a separate time just for worrying, only fifteen minutes at eight every evening.

Thanks to that, I became able to focus much better on work during the day.

That day too, I had written a wrong number in the meeting materials, and I felt down all day.

He told me to think about what I would have said if a friend had made the same mistake.

I would surely have said that anyone can make mistakes, and it's enough to double-check next time.
Yet I had never once said anything like that to myself.

Since people say coloring in simple pictures cuts down on stray thoughts, I bought a coloring book for adults at a bookstore.
At first, I actually took even longer because I kept agonizing over which colors to choose.

As I slowly filled in the lines, thirty minutes flew by, and for a while I forgot what had happened that day.

Strangely, though, after sleeping like that, my head felt heavier and the day went by quickly.

I realized that even if you sleep ten hours on the weekend, fatigue won't go away if your weekday rhythm is a mess.
So I decided not to get up more than an hour later than on weekdays, even on weekends.
Instead, on weekday nights I turned off the lights at eleven and put my phone far away.
After about a month, there were more days when I woke up before the alarm went off.

I checked my speed and distance every day, and if I was slower than the day before, I was upset all day.

One evening, I happened to hear a listener's story on the radio.

I was encouraged to try it too, and went to a meditation class at the local community center with my father.

For my father, the time sitting quietly by the river watching the ripples was itself meditation.
I, on the other hand, am the type whose stray thoughts disappear when I move my hands rather than sit still.
So I started knitting, and my father packs his fishing rod again every weekend.

Around graduation, my college classmate Taeo had suggested we meet at least once a month, but I kept putting it off, saying I was busy.
As a result, I had no one to talk to even on weekends, and I gradually became listless.
One Friday night, I got a short text from Taeo asking how I'd been.
This time I didn't put it off and agreed to meet at a neighborhood cafe the very next day.
Even though we didn't talk about anything special, when we parted I felt lighter at heart for the first time in weeks.
We've now set the last Saturday of every month as our day to meet.
I learned that the busier you are, the more you need to set aside time to see people first.
